SHUBENACADIE: There was a throng of kids on hand as Shubenacadie Sam made his prediction for a 30th year at Shubenacadie Wildlife Park on Feb. 2.
While there was no big excitement like in 2017 when there was an engagement proposal between a Windsor Junction-area couple after Sam made his prediction, there was plenty for everyone to do with it also being World Wetlands Day.
Mascots pleased the kids and posed for photos, while there were crafts and face-painting inside and a booth from Mi’kmawey Debert Cultural Centre.
Reporter Pat Healey was there and snapped photos for our website and the Feb. 14 Weekly Press.

On hand to make the official cry for her fifth year was Municipality of East Hants Town Crier Anita Benedict. Natural Resources Minister Margaret Miller, the MLA for Hants East, and Liberal MLA for Waverley-Fall River-Beaver Bank Bill Horne, the Deputy Minister for Natural Resources, were on hand.Miller read a short speech.
Miller spoke before assisting Tabitha Cox with opening up Sam’s home so he could come out and let the world know what his prediction was.
Also on hand was Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley PC MLA Larry Harrison.
