UPDATED: Pedestrian dies after Stewiacke collision

STEWIACKE: An 89-year-old man who was struck and seriously injured on Feb. 2 in a crosswalk collision in Stewiacke has died.

Cpl. Dal Hutchinson with Nova Scotia RCMP says at 6:15 p.m. on Feb. 2, Colchester District RCMP responded to a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle in Stewiacke. Police confirmed on Feb. 3 that the man had passed away.

“The man was crossing Main St. in a marked crosswalk, when he was struck by a pick-up truck,” said Cpl. Hutchinson in a release.

He said the man was transported by EHS to the Colchester East Hants Health Centre in Truro, and later taken to the QE II Health Sciences Center in Halifax, with serious injuries.

Cpl. Hutchinson said it was snowing at the time of the collision and roads were snow covered.

The investigation into the incident is continuing.
