KENNETCOOK: The Hants North Flames made sure that teams competing at the Coal Bowl Classic in New Waterford earlier this month knew all about them.
Hants North went 4-0 in round robin play, before falling in the semi-final settling for a date with host Breton Education Centre in the bronze medal match of the week-long tournament, which included educational aspects.
In the bronze medal game, Hants North blitzed BEC to bring home the bronze to the Kennetcook-based school. It was the second win against BEC, who had not lost a game in sometime, in as many days.
Carson Gorman led the way with 22 points, while Chase Brown had 17 points and Griffin Smith had 13 points.
In earlier round robin play, Griffin Smith scored 24 points as Hants North defeated BEC 67-58 in a thrilling overtime game. Carson Gorman had 14 points in the game; and Chase Brown supplied 10 points.
On Feb. 8, the Flames nipped Polyvalente de L’Ancienne-Lorette Athletiques 60-57 led by Chase Brown’s 17 points. Also powering the offence was Carson Gorman with 10 points and Ethan McLellan with six points.
In the teams game on Feb. 5, they blew away Shelburne Regional High 93-65 as Carson Gorman scored 25 points in the rout. Griffin Smith had 22 points; Ethan McLellan had 15 points; and Cameron Durling with 11 points;.
The HNRH Flames girls basketball team also attended the Coal Bowl, competing against other invited girls basketball squads. In the lone game with stats provided, BEC torched the Flame girls 84-25.
Leading the attack for Hants North were Megan Singer with seven points; Taylor MacPhee with five points. Bailey Cole and Miranda MacPhee each had four points.
