LANTZ: The HERH Tigers boys hockey team hosted Metro High School hockey league foe Lockview High Dragons in an inter-league exhibition game on Feb. 11 at the East Hants Sportsplex in Lantz.
The two teams played an even game before the estimated 250 fans in attendance at the contest, held as a tune up for the upcoming playoffs season. HERH will be the hosts for this year’s NSSAF boys hockey provincial championships, scheduled for March 24-26 at the East Hants Sportsplex in Lantz.
Against Lockview, the Tigers pressured early but they could manage to get just one goal, that by Cameron Farnell, past Devin Shewan, who stood tall making several timely and big glove grabs to keep the score scoreless, and then at 1-0 as the Tigers pounced to get the second goal to no avail.
The even strength marker was assisted by Sean Morrison and Jake MacRae.
However, Ben Hicks would start the rally and come-from-behind win for the Dragons, scoring once and setting up the other tally as Lockview spoiled the exhibition game, winning 2-1.
Jack Meek notching the eventual game winner as he broke in on the Tigers goalie, and put the puck just up and over the goalie as he sprawled out bulging the back of the net for the tally. Meek also had an assist on Hicks’ first goal.
Josh Moore and Ethan Price also chipped in with helpers.
Austin Shields was tagged with the loss in the HERH net.
Lockview was set to begin their playoffs on Feb. 13, while HERH was to host Northumberland in their final regular season game of 2017-2018 on Feb. 17.
