Joe Merriam records three points to lead game two win for home team
LANTZ: The All Credit Auto (ACA) Rangers are primed and ready to defend their 2017 Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League Championship beginning tomorrow, March 22 at the year-end league championship.
The Lantz-based Rangers advanced to the league championship, where they will be the third seed and face the Bedford Barons in the opening game, by defeating the Joneljim Cougars 2-0 in their best-of-three series. It is being held at Queens Place Emera Centre in Lunenburg March 22-25.
Last year, ACA went into the tournament as a deep seed and not expected by many to do much. Instead, they did the exact opposite, capturing the NSMBHL league championship punching their ticket to the Major Bantam Atlantics, where they continued their success grabbing silver.
Against the Cougars at the Emera Centre Northside in North Sydeny on March 3, Riley Kidney and Jaden Hardie each scored twice to propel the Rangers to a 5-0 win.
Brody Fraser had a single tally, while also chipping in with an assist.
They were backstopped by Lane George who stopped 15 shots.
In the second game, held March 10 in Lantz, Jake Dodge turned away 17 of 18 shots he faced, and the Rangers had five different goalscorers in the 5-1 victory on home ice at the East Hants Sportsplex.
Joe Merriam had a goal and two assists to pace the offence, while Riley Kidney, Evan Tilley, Duncan Ramsay, Carter Murchinson also scored once each.
While the team battles for the 2017-18 championships, they’re already thinking about next season.
