RAWDON: A rural fire department in Hants North has added to it’s fleet of emergency vehicles.
Rawdon Volunteer Fire Department recently purchased a new-to-them pumper/tanker, bringing it into their mantra of vehicles to respond with to calls in the community. It will also respond mutual aid when called up0on to neighbouring departments from Shubenacadie, to Gore, to Brooklyn, to Kennetcook, and Noel.
The truck was on display for the community to see during the department’s open house, held April 14. It coincided with the unveiling of the renovated hall.
Fire Chief Lee Roulston said it was time for the department to get a new truck.
“Our trucks are all getting up there in age,” he said. “The repair and maintenance costs were getting rather high, so it was time to do something.”
He said there is a lot of compartment space on the well-built truck as well.
The new truck is a Spencer HME pumper/tanker that seats five and has a 1250 gallon per minute pump and a 1200 gallon tank on it. That alone makes it very versatile, said Roulston.
“The new truck we got, I feel we got a really good deal on,” said Roulston. “I think it will serve us for many years to come.”
