LANTZ: The East Hants Junior Penguins backs are against the wall after the first two games of the NSJHL final with the Kameron Junior Miners from Sydney.

The Miners skated away with a convincing 5-1 win, then rallied for a 3-2 come-from-behind nail-biter March 31 and April 1 at the East Hants Sportsplex in Lantz. That sends the series to the Membertou Sports and Wellness Centre for the next three games in charge. Games three, four, and five (if necessary) were set for April 6-8.

Games six and seven will return to the East Hants Sportsplex in Lantz, if necessary, for April 14 and April 15. Both teams are secured a berth in the Don Johnson Cup as the Miners are hosting the April 24-29.

In game one, the Pens opened the scoring, but then the Miners rattled off five unanswered led by two goals from Keegan Marcot.

East Hants’ lone tally came from Matt Peruzza, assisted by Alex Anthony.

Ryan Huestis allowed five goals on 37 shots.

The Pens came out with two goals in the second game to get things started. Mark Vokey had both first period goals, which came with the man advantage.

But the Miners rallied, with three goals from three different players. Dylan Morley scored the game winner with 2:45 left in the third period to break the hearts of the Pens and the large crowd on hand for the Sunday afternoon tilt.

Alex Anthony had two assists, while Quinn MacDonald and Jesse Hamer had one each.

Ryan Huestis suffered the loss in goal, making 30 of 33 saves.

The Pens were missing Adam Peruzza, one of their top forwards for the first two games and game three due to a suspension from a penalty late in the final game against Cole Harbour.
