COLCHESTER: Cumberland-Colchester has its first name being put forth to represent the Liberals in the riding in the next federal election.

Joel Henderson is running for the Liberal nod. Bill Casey, the current Member of Parliament for Cumberland-Colchester, has announced his decision not to re-offer in 2019.

“We need to continue having a fearless advocate in Ottawa,” said Henderson, in a press release. “Otherwise, Cumberland-Colchester risks being taken for granted and forgotten.”

Henderson is born and raised in Truro, with family roots all around Colchester County. He is a father of three girls and practices law.

Previously, he served as chief of staff to Casey, as well as chairman of the health committee for three years, during which time Henderson learned to navigate the federal system to help constituents. He was instrumental in much of the committee’s work, including its study of a national pharmacare program.

Henderson says if nominated, he will focus on local priorities, like internet service, skills training, and retirement income security.

“From tourism to transportation, food to forestry, this place matters, and I want Ottawa to remember that,” he said.
